Closed Alpha 2!
Welcome back!
Honestly, glad to have everyone back on the site! While it was nice not having to interrupt everyone with downtime, I think the added feedback will be invaluable going forward in building a site we all can enjoy! We are hoping to not be pushing server updates constantly (we all know you love the Sapphire Harleine by now), rather focus on larger patches.
This round of Closed Alpha will remain open to Alpha testers indefinitely, unless we find a reason we have to close the logins again (I can't see a reason, but just a warning). We are especially looking for feedback on the new Coliseum feature, which has had a TON of work done, here is a brief (LOL) breakdown of how it works:
Make sure you have an active pet selected, it is required for entering the Coliseum. If your pet has been defeated and is sitting at 0 HP, you will need to heal it before battling again.
Equipment comes in five slots:
Weapon
Helmet
Body Armor
Belt
Boots
Weapons determine your base damage range, while armor pieces help reduce incoming damage.
Equipment modifiers can grant item stats such as:
Attack Power
Attack Speed
Critical Strike Chance
Double Damage Chance
Max HP
Armor
Block Chance
Health Regeneration
Damage Multipliers
Some modifiers are flat increases while others are percentage based. Percentage modifiers are applied after flat bonuses, making them especially valuable for min-maxing your equipment!
Equipment rarity determines how many modifiers an item can have.
White - Normal
Base stats only with no modifiers, just the base flat damage or armor.
Blue - Magic
Comes with 2 random modifiers
Yellow - Rare
Comes with 4 random modifiers
Orange - Unique
Special equipment with fixed modifiers and some exclusive effects!
A higher rarity does not always mean a better item. A Magic item with perfect rolls can easily outperform a poorly rolled Rare item.
Strength
Strength increases physical attack power. Each point adds to your attack total, which raises the damage added on top of your weapon roll.
Intelligence
Intelligence increases your pet's armor and defense. Every 2 points of Intelligence adds to your armor total, which reduces incoming damage.
Dexterity
Dexterity raises critical strike chance. Critical strike chance starts at 5% and gains 1% for every 2 points of Dexterity.
Every attack rolls damage between your weapon's minimum and maximum hit values. Your attack power is added, damage multipliers are applied, and critical strikes or double damage effects can massively increase your hit.
Defense works in a similar fashion, Armor reduces incoming damage (armor has diminishing returns, caps around 40% mitigation), Block Chance can cut incoming hits in half!
Another stat, Attack Speed gives a chance to attack twice in one turn (1.20 is a 20% chance to roll an extra turn!)
HP regen is another recovery form, investing in this stat lets you battle a lot more without needing to craft potions (Heart Potion), or wait for health regeneration (1HP per minute if you pet is above 50% hunger and 50% happiness).
Winning battles grants experience points, equipment, Verpoints (capped at 7,500 VP per day) and possibly some items! Each time your pet levels you will get some bonus maximum HP, stat points to spend how you see fit, and every 5th level extra stat point(s)! These stats can currently be refunded at any time, but in the future there will have to be some opportunity cost.
When a monster drops you some items, they have a chance to roll Normal, Magic, or Rare and then they roll modifiers in a Tier system based on that rarity. Keep an eye out for synergistic modifiers, especially the T3 ones!
Potions give your pets temporary advantages, such as Attack Speed, Attack Power, base stats, etc. Be sure to check out the Alchemy recipes for current potions that you can experiment with! These are very helpful for just starting out!
Another feature we worked on was the Equipment Market, since these items are not linked to the actual item system, we had to create a whole separate marketplace for them, but I personally think that works very well! You can currently list 25 pieces of equipment for sale and there is a good tool to search for exactly what you might want to find on an item. These could be very valuable so keep hunting for that elusive all T3 modifier item!
We wanted there to be some sort of use for all the equipment that drops that is sort of...useless. This led us down the path of making a crafting system (much like my favorite ARPG, Path of Exile), where you can scrap your unwanted equipment into crafting materials called Shards. Currently we have 2 types of shards, Magic and Mystic, and these can be used to make the following orbs:
Magic Orb
Turns a Normal item into Magic or rerolls a Magic item
Mystic Orb
Turns a Normal item into Rare or rerolls a Rare item
Arcane Orb
Upgrades a Magic item into Rare while keeping its existing modifiers
Alchemy Orb
Adds a 4th modifier to a Rare item (usually used after using a Arcane Orb)
This is an easier way to make the perfect item, though it is not deterministic in any way. Good luck!
In the future we really want to expand this so we have more deterministic chances, but for now we kept it simple. Another note, the Orbs and Shard ARE items, so they are fully tradable to other users.
We will continue balancing combat, adding new monsters, introducing new uniques, and expanding the crafting system over time. We hope you like this version of battling! While not turn based, we wanted to focus more on what equipment and stats your pet has, you could go fully defensive, or fully offensive depending on the equipment and point allocation you do!
Thank You!
Crazy that our two week alpha test is already coming to an end! I want to say, thank you to everyone who logged in, tested features, reported bugs, shared suggestions, and just spent time exploring. Getting actual users and excited people on the site is truly motivating!
The site will be shutting down tonight at 9:00 PM Eastern Time. After that, logins will only work for staff while we go through all the bugs and suggestions and start planning the next phase.
We’ve received so many suggestions over these two weeks. Some are small tweaks we can jump on fairly quickly. Others are much bigger ideas that would take a lot of art, coding, and time to bring to the site. Once the alpha test closes, we’ll be going through everything carefully and figuring out what fits best, what we can prioritize now, what we can tackle between future alpha tests.
As you may already know, this is a passion project for us. Every single one of the staff members is balancing work, family, and life outside of this, so progress may not be super fast at times, but know we’re still working on new things whenever we can, and we care about building something fun for us all!
We really hope you had fun during this alpha test, and that you’ll come back in a couple of months to see how far things have come. Your support and feedback mean a lot to us!
Thank you again for taking part in our first alpha test!
New Berries!

So you all have something more to collect, we have released 9 new berries for you to collect at the berry bush!
Thank you, Liz, for making these!
Alpha Post-Weekend Update
Just wanted to thank everyone for helping us test the first early alpha for Verpets! We have already received so many great suggestions from all of you and will be implementing many of them in the coming weeks.
We have made a few changes as the alpha has continued this weekend, including 7 new default avatars, enabling two-character pet names, and stocking the elusive Pink Flower in the general store.
This alpha run will be closing on February 13th, so feel free to keep exploring until then. Your accounts will remain active for future alpha testing, but we cannot guarantee that all items, pets, or Verpoints will carry over (we will try our best, but some things may not be possible). With that said, all accounts will be wiped for any beta or full release versions after.
News now integrated to the boards!
I have made an update to integrate the news system into the boards! Now when someone makes a news post, it will automatically create a topic in the "News & Announcements" category and we can have relevant discussions in the topics, with moderation tools. This should make it easier for everyone!
